“Quality Learning” is Järfälla’s motto concerning activities for children and young people. Pre-schools and schools are considered important investments for the future. Both parents and students are therefore allowed to make their own choice of pre-school and school.

Järfälla has pre-schools located in all parts of the community. There are pre-schools operated by the municipality as well as private companies. There are also family day-care centres, pre-schools open to the public, after-school recreation centres and other kinds of recreational activities.

Järfälla’s compulsory schools offer many alternatives and there are schools offering music, art and sports curriculums. Järfälla has a wide variety of upper secondary school education.

Järfälla’s care for the elderly is constantly under development. The aim is to improve the possibility for older citizens to continue living at home even if they need a lot of care. There are several newly built nursing homes available for the elderly that cannot take care of themselves. For those who have been granted home-help service, the municipality has introduced the right to choose the caretaker.

Youth Culture is a priority in Järfälla. The School of Culture offers music, dance, new circus and graphic arts. Järfälla is a pioneer within the field of school-cinema and all children, from pre-school through high school, get to see two films a year. On weekends, theatre performances are given for the youngest children. The main library is located at Jakobsberg Centre with a meeting-place called Hyllan. There are also libraries in Barkarby, Viksjö and Kallhäll.

For those interested in sports, Järfälla offers a wide variety of activities all year around. There are several beaches and a modern public swimming facility with a pool, gym and spa. Järfälla also offers indoor and outdoor ice-rinks for skating and hockey, indoor tennis courts, a golf course, a bowling alley and a riding-school.
