Large parts of Järfälla consist of meadow and woodland. Every local district has green open spaces and beautiful parks. Järfälla also offers a close proximity to water, since the entire western part of the municipality borders on Lake Mälaren.
Ängsjö, located in the northern part of Järfälla, is a popular outdoor recreation area offering jogging tracks, sauna, cafeteria, outdoor swimming, grill facilities, an Indian village and boats for hire during the summer.
Järvafältet is one of Stockholm County’s largest nature reserves. The reserve’s old cultivated landscape is well preserved. There are many walking paths trails and bike trails, but motor traffic is not allowed. Översjön, a popular lake for swimming and fishing, is located in the northern part of the reserve and Säbysjön, a lake with rich bird life, is located in the middle.
The Görväln nature reserve stretches the entire length of western Järfälla. Görväln Manor, located in the reserve, was built in the 1660s. The Manor is a unique piece of history since all of its original buildings are well preserved. The nature reserve is also home to a beautiful park, presenting a multitude of shrubs and trees from around the world. Gåsberget can pride itself on having perhaps Järfälla’s most interesting flora consisting of mistletoe and lime tree. Hummelmora fields lie in the reserve’s southern section and host a living natural monument in the shape of old oaks.
Located near Lake Mälaren is Bruket’s open-air recreation area used for skiing in the winter and swimming and fishing in the summer
