Information about Personal Data

The General Data Protection Regulation, (GDPR), is a regulation aimed at protecting the personal data of the people of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). Järfälla kommun is dedicated to protecting your personal information and following the GDPR.

What is personal data?

Personal data is any information relating to an identified person. It concerns everything from names and personal identity numbers, to photographs and audio recordings wherein a person can be identified. Some personal data is considered more sensitive and in need of more protective measures than other data, for example information pertaining to a person’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, sexuality or sexual orientation.

Who is responsible for the processing of your personal data?

The organization responsible for the processing of personal data is called the controller. In the municipal organization each committee is the controller for the data being processed in the activities provided by the committee. Depending on what activities you have been in contact with (for example the educational system, elder care, libraries, etc.) there are different controllers for your personal data. Each controller is responsible for personal data being processed in a lawful, fair and transparent way.

Where does your personal data come from?

Most commonly, information about you comes directly from you or from other municipal or state authorities. You provide personal data each time you contact us or when applying for something, for example a building permit or child care. On occasion we might collect information from other authorities to ensure we have the right information about you regarding where you live, if you have children in your care, your tax information, etc.

What are your rights?

You have several rights pertaining to our processing of your personal data. Some of them are described below.

  • The right to information and access

You have the right to information about in what way and for what purposes your data is being processed. The controller has an obligation to provide you with the information when collecting it and by your request.

  • The right to rectification

If you consider the personal data we process to be incorrect or incomplete you have the right to demand that the information is corrected or completed.

  • The right to be forgotten

You have the right to be forgotten. However, this right is far from absolute. A large amount of the personal data processed by the different municipal committees is being processed as a part of performing mandatory and essential tasks. This means that in many cases the controller cannot grant a request for the right to be forgotten.

If you have questions or complaints
